BitDash Hosting

In March 2018, I co-founded BitDash with a few friends. It started as a small passion project offering web and game hosting, along with domain registration services. At the time, I couldn’t find a hosting company that ticked all the boxes for me—great customer service, affordable pricing, and flexible services for both individuals and businesses. That’s when we decided to create BitDash.

For a few years, we managed to build a loyal customer base. We even introduced Minecraft server hosting to meet the demand from our users, which turned out to be a big hit. As CEO, I handled more than just the business side—I was also involved in customer support, maintaining the platform, managing the website, and deploying new servers. It was a balancing act, especially since I was in college from 2018 to 2020, but I enjoyed every moment.

We used a tech stack that included HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, Bootstrap, and WHMCS for billing automation. I even wrote custom PHP hooks for WHMCS to improve efficiency. On the server side, we relied on cPanel for management and handled server operations using Linux and Bash.

Unfortunately, in 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic hit hard, and we had to make some tough decisions. The cost of maintaining servers was rising, and there were delays in setting up new ones. We simply couldn’t keep up with demand. As a result, we made the difficult choice to close BitDash in March 2021. Instead of just shutting down, we helped our customers transition to other hosting providers of their choice, staying on for a few months just to assist with the migration. During that time, we didn’t onboard any new customers and focused solely on ensuring a smooth handover for our existing clients.

Although BitDash is no longer around, the experience was invaluable. It taught me how to run a business, lead a team, and navigate the challenges of both technology and the real world. It’s a chapter I’m proud of, and one that shaped the way I approach projects today.
